Proclamation of the First French Republic

The day after the cannonade at Valmy turns back the Prussian invasion of revolutionary France, the new National Convention's first act (21 September) is to abolish the monarchy; from 22 September its acts are dated Year I of the French Republic, and the revolutionary calendar will later count from this week.
