Canada: Beaver Wars (TRIH ep 285)
1630 · Resource
Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook use the Canadian beaver as a lens on Canadian history, beginning with prehistoric Castoroides (the giant beaver) and Indigenous uses of beaver resources. They trace European contact — Jacques Cartier and early traders — through the rise of the fur trade, the Beaver Wars, and English institutional control via the Hudson's Bay Company and its 1670 charter for Rupert's Land.
