Afghanistan (TRIH ep 87)
1979 · Resource
Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook provide a wide-ranging survey of Afghan history, opening with geography and ethnic composition to explain why the region has been both crossroads and crucible for empires. They trace Afghan history from Achaemenid Persian rule through Alexander the Great and the Greco-Bactrian kingdoms, to Buddhist centers such as Bamiyan, Islamic conquest, Timur and the Timurid renaissance, and the Mughal link to India.
