In this episode Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook discuss the recent past through the prism of The Crown's return to Netflix, focusing on Britain around 1981. They situate the royal wedding and Diana's mythic status against a backdrop of recession, mass unemployment, race riots (notably Brixton), the Maze hunger strikes and political polarization under Margaret Thatcher.
