Catherine of Siena

Dominican mystic, ascetic and papal counsellor. Her visions and letters made an uneducated dyer's daughter one of the most influential voices in Christendom; she helped persuade Gregory XI to return the papacy from Avignon to Rome. Canonised 1461; Doctor of the Church.
