On the twelfth anniversary of the regicide, the restored monarchy digs Oliver Cromwell out of Westminster Abbey, hangs the two-year-old corpse at Tyburn and sets the head on a spike above Westminster Hall, where it stays for a quarter of a century. Vengeance, precisely choreographed.
