Half a million sign the Ulster Covenant

On 'Ulster Day', 471,000 unionist men and women sign a covenant — some famously in their own blood — pledging to use 'all means which may be found necessary' to defeat Home Rule for Ireland. Loyalist Ulster has just declared itself ungovernable from Dublin.
