The Mulberry harbours cross the Channel

Lacking a port, the Allies bring two with them: 600,000 tons of concrete caissons, floating roadways and blockships towed across the Channel and assembled off the beaches. A June gale wrecks the American harbour in days; the British one at Arromanches lands supplies for ten months.
