Over the Senate's objections, Scipio lands in Africa with an army of Cannae survivors serving out their disgrace — and by burning the camps of Carthage's allies and winning Masinissa's Numidian cavalry, forces the recall that Italy never could: Hannibal, undefeated there for fifteen years, sails home to defend Carthage.
