After the Boyne and Aughrim, the Jacobite army in Ireland surrenders on terms: the 'Wild Geese' may sail for France, and Irish Catholics are promised toleration. Parliament breaks the promise within a decade with the Penal Laws — the 'broken treaty' Irish memory holds against the settlement.
