Ford pardons Nixon

A month into his presidency, Gerald Ford grants his predecessor a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes he may have committed in office, telling the country the national nightmare must end. The decision probably costs Ford the 1976 election — and is later widely reassessed as an act of political courage.
