Britain annexes Awadh

Under the doctrine that misgoverned states forfeit their thrones, the East India Company deposes the King of Awadh and swallows the richest kingdom left in northern India. A third of the Bengal Army's sepoys come from Awadh — and every one of them has just watched his homeland taken by the employer he serves.
