A little-known cleric named Ruhollah Khomeini denounces the Shah's reforms and his ties to America and Israel — and his arrest brings crowds into the streets of Qom, Tehran and Mashhad. Troops kill hundreds. The 15 Khordad uprising fails, but the revolution has found its leader fifteen years early.
