Europe's alliances flip overnight: Austria, hunting revenge for Silesia, allies with its ancient enemy France, and Britain signs with Prussia — the reversal sealed by the Treaty of Versailles of 1756. Frederick the Great now faces France, Austria, Russia, Saxony and Sweden more or less alone; the miracle is that Prussia survives.
