Demetrius the Besieger fails at Rhodes

Demetrius earns his nickname Poliorcetes — 'the Besieger' — with a year-long assault on Rhodes featuring the largest siege engines antiquity ever built, including a nine-storey armoured tower worked by 3,400 men. Rhodes holds; and from the sale of his abandoned machinery the Rhodians fund a victory statue at their harbour: the Colossus.
