Stradivari's golden period

In a Cremona workshop, Antonio Stradivari builds the violins by which all others are still judged — perhaps a thousand instruments across his life, six hundred surviving, the best now selling for the price of a private jet. Three centuries of varnish analysis and acoustic testing have not conclusively explained what he did; the instruments simply remain the ones soloists want.
