Homo floresiensis, the island 'hobbits'

On the Indonesian island of Flores lives a human species barely a metre tall, with a grapefruit-sized brain — yet making stone tools and hunting pygmy elephants. Discovered in 2003 and instantly nicknamed the hobbit, Homo floresiensis showed how strange the human family really was: while our ancestors spread across Africa, at least four other kinds of human still walked the earth.
