Eric Bloodaxe expelled from York

954 · Event

The last Viking king of York — a Norwegian exile with the era's best name and a reputation to match — is driven out by the Northumbrians and killed in ambush at Stainmore, and the independent Viking kingdom of York dies with him. England is united under one crown for good; the next Norse claims on it will come from kings with armies, not warlords with longships.
