At 5 pm Moscow time — 9 am in Washington, chosen so nothing could go wrong in transmission — Radio Moscow broadcasts Khrushchev's acceptance: the weapons 'you describe as offensive' will be crated and returned to the Soviet Union. The Cuban Missile Crisis is over.
