Hungary surrenders at Vilagos

Overwhelmed after Tsar Nicholas I sends 200,000 Russian troops to rescue the Habsburgs, the Hungarian army lays down its arms — the last of the 1848 revolutions to fall. Thirteen of its generals are executed at Arad; Kossuth escapes into exile to tour America and Britain as the revolution's most famous ghost.
