Vincent Ogé's revolt

A wealthy free man of colour returns from revolutionary Paris demanding the vote for men like himself — not yet for the enslaved — and raises a small revolt when the colonists refuse. Broken on the wheel in Cap-Français, Ogé becomes the martyr who shows Saint-Domingue that the Revolution's promises will not be given freely.
