NATO bombs Serbia over Kosovo
1999 · Event
After Milošević's forces drive hundreds of thousands of Kosovo Albanians from their homes, NATO bombs Serbia for 78 days — the first war fought by the alliance against a sovereign state, waged without UN authorisation and entirely from the air. Milošević yields Kosovo in June; not one NATO soldier dies in combat.
