Maipú secures Chile

A year after Chacabuco, San Martín destroys the last royalist army in Chile on the plain of Maipú, embracing O'Higgins on the field. With the Pacific coast secured and a navy building under the renegade British admiral Cochrane, the road to the empire's stronghold in Peru is finally open — by sea.
