Mosaic makes the web visual

Two students at an Illinois supercomputing centre release a free browser that puts images on the page next to the text and installs in minutes. Mosaic turns the web from a physicists' tool into something anyone would want to look at — web traffic grows ten-thousandfold in a year, and its co-author Marc Andreessen founds Netscape to sell the idea to the world.
