After a near-fatal desert crossing to the remote oasis of Siwa, the priest of Ammon greets Alexander — by design or mistranslation — as the god's son. He never tells anyone what he asked inside, but from Egypt onward the divine sonship is policy, and coins struck after his death give him ram's horns.
