Under the eyes of a Spartan garrison, a junta of thirty collaborators kills some 1,500 Athenians and drives thousands into exile in eight months — among the dead, more Athenians than Sparta killed in ten years of war, the survivors said. The democrats retake the city within the year, and swear the world's first recorded amnesty.
