Along the Suez Canal the war never quite stops: three years of Egyptian artillery duels, Israeli deep-penetration air raids, commando strikes and Soviet pilots flying Egyptian MiGs, until a ceasefire restores the status quo. It settles nothing — the rematch comes in October 1973.
