Fenton photographs the war

Roger Fenton spends four months in Crimea with a horse-drawn darkroom and brings home some 360 images — the first substantial photographic record of any war. His 'Valley of the Shadow of Death', a road strewn with cannonballs, becomes one of the most argued-over photographs ever taken.
