The siege of Eshowe

On the same day as Isandlwana, the coastal column digs in at a mission station at Eshowe — and is cut off for ten weeks, signalling to the coast by heliograph while fever kills more men than the Zulus do. Its relief in April, after the victory at Gingindlovu, marks the war's turn.
