1879 · Event

Run to ground in the Ngome forest, the king is exiled to Cape Town while his kingdom is carved into thirteen puppet chiefdoms that promptly fall into civil war. In 1882 he is brought to London, lionised by crowds and received by Victoria — then restored to a rump of his country, where the war his captors started finishes him within two years.
