Picquart finds the real traitor

The army's new intelligence chief, Georges Picquart, discovers that the treason continues and that the handwriting on the bordereau belongs to Major Esterhazy — a debt-ridden gambler. Ordered to bury it ('What does it matter to you if that Jew stays on Devil's Island?'), he refuses, and is posted to Tunisia and then imprisoned. The cover-up now IS the affair.
