As the Flavian army fights into Rome — the Capitol itself burning in the street-fighting — Vitellius is dragged from a doorkeeper's cell, paraded half-naked through the Forum he had ruled, tortured and thrown in the Tiber. The next day the Senate votes Vespasian everything; the year of four emperors has found its last one standing.
