The afflictions begin in the parsonage
1692 · Event
In the minister's own house in Salem Village, nine-year-old Betty Parris and her cousin Abigail begin convulsing, screaming and contorting in ways the village doctor can only call the Evil Hand. Under adult pressure the girls name names; within weeks the afflictions — and the accusations — are spreading through a frontier community primed by war panic and old feuds.
