Gandhi returns to India

After twenty-one years in South Africa — where a young lawyer thrown off a train invented satyagraha, the discipline of truth-force — the 45-year-old Gandhi lands at Bombay, already famous. His mentor Gokhale's advice: spend a year travelling third-class, and say nothing until you know India. He does exactly that; the anniversary is now marked as the day of the overseas Indian.
