Orban casts the great bombard

A Hungarian gunfounder named Orban, turned away by the penniless emperor, sells the sultan a cannon 27 feet long that hurls a half-ton stone ball over a mile. It takes sixty oxen to move and can fire only a few times a day — but no wall ever built was made to withstand it.
