Fourth voyage of Columbus

1502–1504 · Event

The 'High Voyage': barred from Hispaniola, Columbus coasts Central America hunting a strait to the Indian Ocean, loses his worm-eaten ships, and spends a final year marooned on Jamaica — where he awes the islanders back into provisioning his crew by predicting a lunar eclipse from his almanac. He comes home to die.
