Oates walks into the blizzard

1912 · Event

His frostbitten feet slowing the party to a fatal crawl, Captain Lawrence Oates leaves the tent on the morning of his 32nd birthday with the most famous exit line in exploration: 'I am just going outside and may be some time.' His body is never found; the sacrifice buys his companions eleven more days.
