Shackleton's Endurance expedition

1914–1916 · Event

The Pole won, Shackleton sets out to cross the whole continent — and never sets foot on it: the Endurance is trapped and crushed by pack ice, and the story becomes the greatest survival epic in exploration. Ice floes, three lifeboats to Elephant Island, and not one of the twenty-eight men lost. 'For scientific discovery give me Scott... but when you are in a hopeless situation, pray for Shackleton.'
