Greece rises against the Ottomans

After Ypsilantis's doomed thrust across the Pruth, the Peloponnese explodes: within weeks the Greek flag flies over the Morea and the Ottoman garrisons are besieged. The 25th of March — blended with the feast of the Annunciation — becomes Greece's national day, and Europe's Romantics have found their cause.
