With Israel burning through munitions at rates no one had modelled and the Soviets resupplying the Arab armies, Nixon orders an all-out airlift — 'send everything that can fly' — that delivers 22,000 tonnes inside a month. The bill arrives promptly: the Arab oil producers embargo the United States three days after the first C-5 lands.
